2018 Christmas Work Party Tips

It’s that exciting time of year again, Christmas is just a week away and the Christmas work party is on the long list of parties to go to this year. Whilst you are wondering what sparkly frock to throw on, Debbie Burbage Recruitment have some useful tips to help see you through your Christmas work do!

Don’t be a Scrooge this Christmas

Yes we all have our diaries booked up over December, but make sure you keep the date free for your work Christmas party. Even if you have double booked, it is important that you at least show your face for an hour or two so that you can wish your colleagues a Merry Christmas. After all you do not want to be a Scrooge this Christmas.

Get Involved in the Christmas Party

Showing your face isn’t about just turning up, make sure that you get involved with the party. Get up and have a dance with your work colleagues, chat to those you don’t usually see and network. Remember to have fun and save the business talk for the office.

Don’t Embarrass Yourself

Work parties are a great opportunity to let your hair down and have a good time. However it is important to remember that you not on a usual night out in town with friends, you are amongst your work colleagues and managers.

Make sure that you keep a positive reputation at work by dressing appropriately, avoid any unnecessary gossip and inappropriate behaviour. In other words be on your best behaviour!

Take Control of Yourself

Although free alcohol is one of the bonuses at an office Christmas party, it doesn’t mean that you should drink as much as you can. Take control by only having one or two glasses. Make sure you don’t have one too many that you start to embarrass yourself around your work colleagues and managers.

If you feel drink is making you feel a bit worse for wear then make sure you have something to eat and drink plenty of water. Do not attempt to drive home if you have come by car, ask someone to take you home or get a taxi.

The Christmas Party is for Everyone

Don’t try and make yourself centre of attention, the work party is for everyone. If you notice that someone is looking a little bit left out then make use of your communication skills and get them involved in the conversation. Listen to what others have to say and speak to different people throughout the night. Share yourself around!

Overall…

The annual Christmas party is about having a good time with those you work with, remember not to cause any embarrassing moments, have fun with your work colleagues and don’t leave anyone out.

A very Merry Christmas to you all and a Happy New Year!
